Prospective Hockey Families

Information for New Families

All Families: Please Register with USA Hockey and SPAYHA by following the Registration tab on the top of the home page.

All Families: If you are unsure what position your child will be playing, choose F/D.

Intro and U8 Families: Be sure to follow the EQUIPMENT tab for dates and times of Equipment hand-out or turn-in at our rink, Ice Hawks Arena. Intro Skaters will need to provide skates and stick. U8 skaters will need skates, stick, and helmet. SPAYHA provides all the other equipment needed for your skater free of charge unless it is not returned when the season or session has ended.  It is extremely important to turn in your skater's equipment when season or session has ended to keep the equipment rental FREE for everyone.

All Families: If you are looking to find someone to ask questions about specifics in a particular area, please go to the Board tab and find the person who is knowledgeable in the specific area you have questions on.

All Families: Always check the RINK SCHEDULES tab for updated practice times as they can change.

Intro and U8 Families: An extra pair of sweat pants or pajama pants are recommended to put over the shin pads instead of hockey socks for kids ages 3-6.

INTRO: The season begins with the first session in late October. You must be registered before you can get on the ice. The second session begins in late December. If you only paid for First session and would like to continue to Second session, please register for Second session on the REGISTRATION tab. Skaters that have not registered for Second session will not be allowed to participate in Second session until registered. Practices are usually on Tuesday's at 6p and Saturday's at 9am.

U8: The season begins in October and goes into March. You must be registered before you go on the ice. Practices are usually on Tuesday's at 5p, Saturday's at 7a or 8a, and Sunday afternoons.

Squirt-Bantams: Tune Ups/3v3 (pre-season ice time) begins in August. It is not mandatory to sign up for these sessions, however, it is beneficial so your skater understands the drills for evaluations. Skills/Drills will be on the first night of the week and 3v3 will be on the second night of the week. We do have a 3v3 tournament in August which should not be confused with tune ups/3v3. Many emails will go out for the tournament. Please follow the schedule listed on the right side of the homepage of the website for the tune up/3v3 session schedule. Evaluations will be either the second or third week in October. The schedule will be posted on Rink Schedules Tab. Each skater will need to purchase and wear Black Game Socks for evaluations. They will be available for purchase the first night of evaluations prior to the start for $20 cash or check to SPAYHA. You will receive a call from your coach after evaluations and teams are made. The first practice is usually the Saturday after Evaluations. Please check Rink Schedules.

All Families: Please check and read all emails that are sent from SPAYHA, "NO REPLY".

All Families: Our rink is run by families just like you. We are all volunteers and need to help clean up after others. Please take it upon yourself to grab a broom and dustpan from the maintenance room to pick up any messes in the rink including the stands. The mop is only for liquid spills. We do not use the mop to clean the mat floors as it spreads sand and dirt under skates. This also includes cleaning all bathrooms. If you are not sure where something is, please check the maintenance room first, then ask if it is not located there. The maintenance room is located down the hallway from locker rooms 1 and 3.

All Families: Please check the VOLUNTEER PAGE tab for information about volunteer hours for U8 families and travel teams (Squirt-Bantam).

Intro and U8 Families: Concessions are usually open on Saturday mornings and most league play dates for U8.

All Families: Ice Hawk apparel will be available via an online store opened monthly, watch for emails about this! Tape, bags, laces and mouthguards are available to purchase in the vending machine near concessions or in the concession stand.
